Top 3 Places to Travel from Sydney on Sunday

Sunday, Funday!

Sunday is known as the “day of rest”. But in Sydney, that is not the case for most people. Sunday is the day of cheap fares so travel, travel, TRAVEL! In Sydney transportation is paid for by the Opal Card system. You get a card (free from any convenient store, grocer, or other participating retailers) put money on it and use it for buses, trains, ferries and more. The maximum fare charged on Sundays is $2.60. This means that once you spend $2.60, your Opal Card will stop charging you. This Sunday deal can save you up to $13! Here are some of the best places to travel from Sydney to make your Sunday a Fun Day!

1. Blue Mountains

Hop on the train, wait 2 hours and soon you will be in the majestic Blue Mountains. My advice is to take the train to Katoomba Station. Once you get there you will in the town. There there are cafes, museums and more. When I went, I paid for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus ($45 AUD) and it brought me to all the top tourist spots. It’s a great idea if you are not in the mood for a hike. But if that isn’t the case for you, there are lots of trails and you can make the day on foot! The Three Sisters Formations are a must see. You can also hike to the formations and touch one of them! Another top tourist attraction is Katoomba Falls.

2. Manly Beach

To get to Manly Beach, you have to take the ferry from Circular Quay. The ferry tends to be expensive so definitely head here on a Sunday for the best bang for your buck! The ferry ride is amazing with a really great view of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. Once you get off the ferry, there is a very lively street with food, shops, cafes, restaurants, live music and my favorite- a market! Spend a great day at the beach and enjoy all Manly has to offer!

3. Wollongong

About an hour and a half away, I like to think of Wollongong as a secret treasure. The train ride has some breathtaking views. Get off the train and walk 20 minutes and arrive at the beaches. There are much less people at these beaches compared to Sydney beaches so soak in the sun, take a rest and have some peace and quiet. Grab a snack at the many cafes and waterfront restaurants.

Hope you all have some fun Sundays!
